This poster will forever remind a of a historical moment in not only the United States, but even to rest of the world. Although his slogan was indeed “Yes We Can”, the one word stuck was “Change” ! Such a phenomena that a a whole nation believed that change was about to happen or could be possible through one man - a leader.
I guess, everyone has a little power in some ways or another. In my case, I am around children so often that I have to remember that although I absolutely enjoy being their “friend”. These small people also see me as a “Koko” or “Aneh” or somebody they look up to. I’m totally not apologetic to take the Asian route in saying that “I’m too proud to call myself a leader” or too “pai sei”. However way you look at it, being around children makes it inevitable to be somewhat of a leader.
So where am I going with this post ? I definitely find it hard to sometimes make decisions (as a leader). I bet we can all attest to this particular strife. Especially as a Christian, how we keep our values and every little thing that we do is our reflection of our Father. Do we resemble Him ?
Having a conversation with my 8-year old god-brother about “Ben-10” made me think a little about my “role-model” role in his life. After seeing some of the immoral values, unethical behaviors and appalling attitude of some of the characters on Ben10 (even Ben himself), I had been trying to discourage him from seeing the show. It was a decision. Small decision, nonetheless - big for him. Inevitably, I was bombarded with a pack of “Why”s and “but…”s. Then, I realize that its these little things that if I would give in, I am accountable to God. Yes, God! Why? Simply because I was given the responsibility and the privilege to be this 8-year old’s Koko.
I love the idea that we, Christians, are made in the image of Christ and we are His ambassadors. Take a moment to think a bout that thought. IT’S A BIG BIG DEAL ! But as Christians we cannot be influenced. We HAVE to be able to stand FIRM and NOT COMPROMISE (it is CRITICAL). WE ARE the CHANGE - in small and big ways.
Don’t become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead, fix your attention on God. You’ll be changed from the inside out. Readily recognize what he wants from you, and quickly respond to it. Unlike the culture around you, always dragging you down to its level of immaturity, God brings the best out of you, develops well-formed maturity in you. —-Romans 12: 2
“In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father.” —-Mathew 5:16
I end with this short thought :I understand that although not everyone may be a leader, a Christian is a child of God. Once the thought of that triggers - we automatically remember our “role” as a “changer”. Pray for your leaders and pray for those you wish to change. YES WE CAN (with God) Amen!=)
Luv,
